Heems, the ex-Das Racist rapper, has just posted a link to video for the song ‘Desi Shoegaze Taiko’, a cut from his first mixtape, Nehru Jackets. The video, which was uploaded to youtube on Dapwell’s account, consists of a slightly time-warped beginning of the Wesley Snipes opus, Blade. Honestly, that’s the whole video.
I have to say, it’s an odd move, considering that his second mixtape, Wild Water Kingdom has been out for months, but one that I find heartening. ‘Desi Shoegaze Taiko’ is not, in my opinion, one of Heems’ best songs, but neither is it the worst. I find it impossible to take any kind of issue with a rap song that samples Yuck though and I do adore the fact that Heems, most likely deliberately, is messing with the public’s expectations just for lulz.
Heems has a tour of the UK planned soon, details of which you can find here. Happy Friday folks!
