Sigur Rós have just announced that May will see the release of their first studio album in almost four years.

Valtari, their sixth record will hit stores on 28 May and has been described by the group as “ambient” “introverted” “floaty” and “minimal”. Bassist Georg Hólm said in an interview with Q Magazine, that the title (translated as “Steamroller”) alludes to the music, which “just rolls over you. In a good way,”.

Lead singer Jonsi also revealed that as with the majority of their previous releases, Valtari will contain no English lyrics whatsoever, despite their brief experimentation on Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust and on his own solo project. A work in progress tracklisting has also been released (see below) as well as a host of tour dates. As previously confirmed, Bestival will be their only UK festival appearance of 2012.
