Not much is known about the London based crooner Joel Compass, however like so many already hyper polished artists that are emerging at the moment, Compass reeks of an artist who’s been hanging around mayor label studios for quite some time. The sound, away from industry politics, is accomplished, straight up and smooth. He draws from current stars like Frank Ocean and Jeremih as more than references, there seems to be a real love for this new emergence of experimental R&B we’re seeing, rather than a cynical jump onto the bandwagon.
His debut track isn’t thematically more complex than the title suggests, Back to Me, however Compass’ voice has a strikingly believable energy that just about carries the whole thing.
