Bon Iver‘s self-titled sophomore effort led to divided opinion among fans of Justin Vernon and co.
But whilst the Phil Collinsy, ’80s pastiche of Beth/Rest wasn’t for everyone, Holocene makes use of the delicate acoustic tones and wounded falsetto that sent For Emma into the annals of indie rock history. The video, shot on location in Iceland by director Nabil Elderkin, debuted yesterday on the National Geographic website, which is fitting when you consider the absolutely stunning Icelandic landscapes on show – grass-roofed homes, stark black shale leading down to brilliant white ice and mirrored waters, etc. etc. Even if you’re not so keen on Bon Iver’s recent output, the video at least should put you nicely in the mood for the forecasted activity in the Sigur Ros camp. And if you don’t like Bon Iver or Sigur Ros…well, I don’t have much to say to you at all.
